Magazine Covers
Magazine Cover Photography: I Don’t Try to Get on the Cover, but…
Every now and then, I’ll be flipping through a local magazine and spot one of my photos on the cover. It’s always a pleasant surprise. My clients work hard to promote their brands and earn these coveted spots—my role is simply to help them shine.
The Marketing Challenge of Landing a Magazine Cover
Getting featured in a magazine, especially on the cover, is no easy task. Whether you’re pitching to a local publication or a national one, competition is fierce. So when a client lands that prime spot with one of my images, I’m just as thrilled as they are.
Magazine cover photography isn’t usually about generating instant sales. In fact, it’s hard to measure direct results. But it’s worth the effort because it does two powerful things:
-
Builds credibility and trust. A cover feature instantly positions your brand as professional and respected.
-
Keeps your brand top of mind. Combined with other marketing throughout the year, it ensures that when someone is ready to buy, your brand is the one they remember.
Publications like Okanagan Life Magazine, with its popular “Best Of” lists, reach audiences across the Thompson Okanagan. Central Alberta Homes connects with housing industry professionals and homeowners between Calgary and Edmonton.
My Approach to Magazine Cover Photography
When I’m shooting, I focus on creating images that are technically sharp, creatively engaging, and full of visual impact. My goal is to communicate quality and value to my clients—and to their clients—through the lens.
That’s the essence of great magazine cover photography: telling a story in a single, unforgettable image.
